The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Office of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) participated in the 7th Cairo International Exhibition of Innovation “Cairo Innovates.” The event was organized by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) on February 13 and 14, in the New Administrative Capital, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Cairo Innovates was held under the theme “Towards Integrated Global Innovation Ecosystem”. It was attended by heads of international organizations, universities and research centers, more than 88 universities and academic institutions, 100+ tech startups, and innovators from Egypt and Arab and African countries, who showcased over 1,000 inventions. This year’s guest of honor was Portugal.
The IPR Office’s participation came as part of its plan to raise awareness of IPRs, especially in software and databases.
Cairo Innovates is an annual event that aims to boost the innovation ecosystem in the region by creating an innovation hub that attracts society’s interest in science and research, connects innovators and researchers with industry players, experts and venture capitalists, and allows innovators to present and promote their inventions to help achieve development and progress in different sectors.
The Exhibition comprised more than 11 pavilions in different categories, including startups, IPRs, local manufacturing, robotics, drones, electric vehicles, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), digital and smart agriculture, energy, water, medical equipment and prosthetics, green innovation, and simplified science. The event agenda also featured conferences, workshops, panel discussions and forums.
It is worth mentioning that the IPR Office of ITIDA was established to administer a national copyright system. The Office guarantees efficient protection to IPRs and administers the deposit of computer programs and databases, providing licenses for the legal-reproduction and translation, for educational purposes.
