MCIT Organizes Digital Citizenship Training in Marsa Matruh, Marking SID

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Misr Public Library co-organized training in digital citizenship and online safety, on February 26-28, in Marsa Matrouh. The training was held within the framework of concluding the Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrated in February of each year, and as part of the Digital Citizenship Initiative.

The training targeted adolescents and youth in Marsa Matrouh to raise awareness of the fundamentals of digital citizenship. Real-life applications of digital citizenship skills were also presented during the training. The program also included providing training on protecting against digital threats, promoting online safety, and encouraging the safe and positive use of the Internet.

The digital citizenship training was carried out within the framework of MCIT strategy for promoting digital literacy safely and effectively among individuals.

MCIT launched the Digital Citizenship initiative to raise citizens’ awareness of the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world in safe, legal, and ethical ways. Objectives of the initiative include providing knowledge and reliable content on digital citizenship concepts, skills, and inspirational models, and helping people apply digital citizenship skills through specialized training and online counseling services.

The initiative also aims to increase local communities’ awareness of Internet dangers, introduce cybersecurity tools and protection and support channels, and establish national and international partnerships to exchange knowledge and expertise.

Safer Internet Day is celebrated worldwide under the theme, "Together for A Better Internet." The campaign was first launched in 2004. Its objectives include promoting the safe and positive use of digital technology for young generations, protecting children and adolescents on the Internet, raising awareness of Internet dangers, especially on social media, and preventing cyberviolence and cyberbullying. SID also aims to promote the use of online safety and data and privacy protection tools and identify people’s role in creating safe cyberspace.
