Ongoing DEBI-USM Collaboration Paves Way to More Success

A high-level delegation from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has visited the premises of Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI), an initiative launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), to build human capital in advanced technical areas.

The delegation included a number of professors, the Dean of the School of Management; Deputy Dean, Academic, Career and International at the School of Management; Deputy Dean, Research, Innovation and Industry-Community Network at the School of Management; Senior Deputy Registrar, Academic Management Division, Registry; Principal Assistant Registrar at the School of Management; Senior Assistant Registrar at the Institute of Postgraduate Studies; and Assistant Registrar, Academic Management Division, Registry.

The visit kicked off with presentations on the journey of the first batch of the FinTech major and the academic program of the new batch. The aim was to optimize student learning and improve education quality within the FinTech program.

The delegation took a tour of DEBI premises and explored the high-tech tools and advanced labs offered to students. The members of the delegation also met with students of the second batch as well as some alumni, who discussed their views and learning experience.

It is worth noting that the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) signed an agreement, last year, with USM on granting DEBI students a Master’s degree in business analysis within the FinTech program. Under the agreement, academic staff from USM design business analysis courses, support and mentor DEBI students, and propose topics for course projects and assess them.

USM is a public research university. It was founded in 1969, and it is among the oldest higher education institutes in Malaysia.

The cooperation with USM is one in a series of partnerships between DEBI and prestigious universities, including the University of Ottawa in Canada, Ohio State University in the US, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in Korea, Queen’s University in Canada, and University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland.

MCIT, through DEBI, also collaborates with national and international ICT companies to better train students and help them acquire advanced skills and experience. Agreements are also forged with leading companies and institutions to develop the students’ leadership, soft, and language skills.
