Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), has participated in the second session of the 2023 Conference Preparatory Meeting (CPM23-2) of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23). The session was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland.
On the sidelines of CPM23-2, NTRA Executive President met with officials from ITU and global experts in the telecommunication sector. He met with the ITU Secretary-General to discuss enhancing cooperation between NTRA and ITU at different levels. He also met with the Director of ITU Radiocommunication Bureau. They addressed the major topics to be discussed at WRC-23, most notably spectrum management, how to make optimal utilization of frequency spectrum as a vital and scarce resource, and its uses in next-generation telecommunications such as 5G and 6G. Other topics of discussion included satellite communications and the latest updates in that field.
Moreover, NTRA Executive President held a meeting with the Chair of the 3rd African Group Preparatory Meeting for WRC-23 (APM23-3). They discussed cooperation and topics of interest to African countries, especially since the Egyptian African Telecom Regulatory Training Center (EG-ATRC) of NTRA was selected to join the ITU Academy Training Centers (ATC) program.
He also met with the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau. They discussed Egypt’s pioneering experience in developing the Egyptian countryside and providing high-quality telecom services in rural villages within the “Decent Life” project. The two sides also explored possible collaboration in smart cities, with focusing on the New Administrative Capital as a leading national project in that field. Other topics discussed included training African people in digital development.
NTRA Executive President also met with the Chairman of the Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) at the League of Arab States (LAS). They discussed developing a common Arab vision on technology issues, especially 5G and satellite and aerial services
