Egypt Wins Silver, Bronze at IIOT 2023

The sixth International Informatics Olympiad in Teams (IIOT), hosted in Egypt on May 26-30, has concluded. Egypt finished in second place after Romania, winning silver and bronze medals.

The event was organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) at its Port Said Campus, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). A large number of teams from different countries competed in IIOT.

IIOT is a flagship computer science competition that aims to get high school students interested in informatics, programming, and problem-solving. The competition helps build team spirit and promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience among youngsters who share the same interests and qualifications. IIOT participants compete in four-member teams, with each team using only two computers. In 2021, Egypt officially joined IIOT as a Regular Member.

Earlier this year, the top three teams at IIOT Egypt qualified to represent Egypt in IIOT 2023. The national finals were held in March at AASTMT Port Said Campus, under the auspices of MCIT. The qualifying rounds of IIOT Egypt kicked off in November 2022. Over four months, four online contests were organized to spot the best teams and announce the winners that will represent Egypt in the international competition.

MCIT role included providing computers at IIOT 2023 and supervising the training programs carried out to qualify young people for local, regional, and international Olympiad in informatics. This comes within the framework of a cooperation protocol signed by MCIT, the Ministry of Education, and AASTMT on developing young Egyptians’ skills in coding and IT.
