ICT Minister Visit to France


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has headed to Paris, France, on a three-day visit, to participate in the 7th edition of Viva Technology (VivaTech), held on June 14-17, in Paris. The ICT Minister participated in the opening of VivaTech, on behalf of the President of the Republic.

VivaTech is an annual technology conference that brings together startups, trailblazers, and investors to explore the newest digital innovations and leading experiences in the digital industry.

On the sidelines of his participation in VivaTech, Talaat witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Valeo to establish a training academy focusing on building digital capabilities in embedded systems in the automotive industry and autonomous driving.

During his visit to France, the ICT Minister met with the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Telecommunications in France Jean-Noël Barrot. They reviewed Egypt-France ICT cooperation projects related to boosting emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), and fostering youth’s innovation and entrepreneurship. They also emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation and opening new horizons for cooperation.

The ICT Minister concluded the meeting by inviting his French counterpart to visit Egypt, heading an official delegation that includes various ICT small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to closely explore investment opportunities in the ICT sector, especially in embedded systems and electronics design and manufacturing.

Furthermore, the ICT Minister met with Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and officials of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). They discussed enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and OECD.

The ICT Minister also met with Teleperformance CEO Karine Jan. They discussed ways to expand the company's business in Egypt and the incentives and facilitations that Egypt offers to attract investors in the outsourcing industry within the framework of the Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry. MCIT efforts in shaping a talent pool to cater to international outsourcing companies were presented at the meeting.

From Nokia France, Talaat met with President Pierre-Gaël Chantereau and senior officials. They discussed Nokia's cutting-edge telecom infrastructure technologies, most notably 5G connectivity and its various uses in different industries. The meeting also shed light on the expansion of Nokia’s business and investments in Egypt with the availability of a skilled workforce and advanced infrastructure.

The ICT Minister took a tour of Nokia's labs. He explored the tech solutions developed to maintain sustainability in digital transformation projects, in addition to Nokia’s R&D, corporate infrastructure, and 5G network security projects.

Moreover, Talaat held a meeting with President of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) Nicolas Brunel. The meeting discussed the potential global expansion of ALE to include Egypt, capitalizing on investment incentives in the Egyptian ICT sector, including trained young talents.

The ICT Minister also met with the Chief Operating Officer at Contentsquare Nicolas Fritz in Paris, France. They focused on the French new center of excellence (CoE) in Egypt, which will serve as a center for innovation and export of Contentsquare services to its customers worldwide.

Talaat also met with Chief Operating Officer at Atos Group Laurent Barbet and various officials from the company. They discussed enhancing and increasing the volume of investments of Atos in Egypt, in light of the company’s desire to increase the volume of its business in Egypt and the availability of digital competencies.

In a similar vein, Talaat held a meeting with the Managing Director of P3-Group Robert Rendl. They discussed enhancing Egypt’s capabilities in embedded software in the automotive industry by attracting major manufacturers based on an integrated ecosystem that includes providing the necessary infrastructure and trained human calibers.

The ICT Minister also held a meeting with Valeo Chief Technology Officer Geoffrey Bouquot. They discussed enhancing cooperation in embedded software as part of the automotive industry as well as reviewing the company's plans to increase its investments in Egypt.

In a similar vein, Talaat met with the Executive Vice President and CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa Jérôme Hénique, and the CEO of Orange Egypt Yasser Shaker. They reviewed Orange’s plans to increase its business in Egypt in the field of capacity-building and enhancing cooperation with ITIDA to implement capacity-building programs in Egypt.

The ICT Minister also visited several companies in which Orange invests. He explored various applications that rely on promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and providing communication services in the health sector.

Talaat concluded his meetings in Paris by holding a meeting with the Managing Director of SEGULA Technologies Stéphane Le Corre. The meeting delved into the company’s plans to establish its center specializing in embedded software in Egypt.
