MCIT Partakes in First Arab Summit on Skills Development, Future Jobs, IT

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has participated in the First Arab Summit on Skills Development, Future Jobs, and IT. The event was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in collaboration with Microsoft Egypt and UNICEF, as part of the celebration of the Arab Youth Year 2023.

A session discussing skills development and equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) was held as part of the Summit. It highlighted the role of MCIT in empowering and including people with special needs in the labor market. Within its human development strategy, the Ministry launches initiatives to upskill PwDs and prepare them for the digital transformation.

MCIT attaches great importance to the inclusion and empowerment of PwDs to help build an inclusive society. For this, the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID) was established. NAID works to build the digital capacity of PwDs and tap into their potential to boost economic growth and social development in Egypt.

Furthermore, MCIT created the National Network for PWD Services (Taheel) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Manpower. The aim is to use ICT to support the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination and increase their competitiveness in local and regional markets. This comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to provide digital tools and applications to best serve PwDs, improve their quality of life, and facilitate their access to job opportunities.

On the one hand, Taheel facilitates the access of PwDs to training, qualification, and employment opportunities that match their disability, helping enhance their employability and empowering them to start their careers. The Network, on the other hand, allows employers and service providers to post information about their businesses, services, and job opportunities and create a disability-friendly work environment. Taheel raises their awareness of the physical and mental accessibility essentials and helps them explore closely the skills and abilities of PwDs, with the aim of improving the quality of services and creating equal employment opportunities for everyone.
