ICT Minister Visit to USA

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has headed to the United States of America (USA) on a four-day to strengthen Egypt-US collaboration, transfer field-related knowledge, and discuss investment opportunities in the Egyptian ICT sector.

The ICT Minister met with various officials from major ICT international companies, including the US Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology Anne Neuberger in Washington DC, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in ICTs.

Talaat also met with the member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Bob Latta. The meeting presented the most prominent ICT cooperation projects between Egypt and the USA and mechanisms to boost collaboration in all relevant fields.

The ICT Minister held a meeting with the Congressman and Co-Chair of the Congressional Friends of Egypt Caucus Dutch Ruppersberger. They reviewed the developments made in the Egyptian ICT sector, its competitive advantages, and the available investment opportunities, especially in the fields of data centers, outsourcing, and electronics design and manufacturing.

Furthermore, Talaat also met with Congressman Darrell Issa. During the meeting, Talaat looked forward to boosting ICT cooperation between the two countries and attracting more investments by American companies to the Egyptian ICT sector.

In a similar vein, the ICT Minister discussed investment opportunities in the Egyptian ICT sector during a roundtable with various officials, members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC), from American ICT companies.
Talaat also witnessed the signing of an MoU between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and VMware, in San Francisco, on launching a Multi-Cloud initiative under VMware IT Academy.
Following the signing ceremony, the ICT Minister met with the CEO of VMware Raghu Raghuram to discuss collaboration in digital transformation and digital capacity building, in addition to the expansion of VMware Egypt.
Talaat also met with the COO of VXI Global Solutions Jared Morrison; they discussed plans for establishing a VXI call center in Egypt.

The ICT Minister held another meeting with the General Manager of the Solutions Group at Synopsys Joachim Kunkel. They discussed Synopsys’ interest in expanding its IC design business with local partner Si-Vision, in Egypt.

Furthermore, Talaat met with the President of North American operations at MediaTek Lawrence Loh. Points of discussion included the company’s expansion in the IC design business in Egypt through InfiniLink and ways to take advantage of the talent pool and attractive eco-system in Egypt.

The ICT Minister also held an extensive meeting with the co-founder and CEO of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) Jodi Shelton and several GSA members, in California, to discuss enhancing cooperation with GSA through GSA Egypt to support and develop the electronics industry in Egypt.

In this context, Talaat held bilateral meetings with officials from various companies specializing in the electronics industry. He met with the Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer at Qualcomm Technologies Roawen Chen; Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Technology and Product Development at Silicon Labs Daniel Cooley; President of the Semiconductor Solutions Group at Broadcom Charlie Kawwas; and President of Infineon Technologies Americas Corp. Maher Matta.

 In addition, Talaat held an extensive meeting with Egyptian businessmen in the USA, specialists and experts in ICT and the electronics industry. During the meeting, the most prominent Digital Egypt projects and investment opportunities in the Egyptian ICT sector were highlighted.

The ICT Minister also met with the Senior VP of Product Development Engineering at Dell Technologies Tibor Fabry-Asztalos and senior officials to discuss boosting investment in the company’s R&D center in Egypt to export services to customers worldwide.

Talaat also met with the Executive Vice President and Chief People, Policy and Purpose Officer Francine Katsoudas, and senior officials from Cisco. They explored ways to increase the company’s investments in Egypt.

Talaat also met with the Chief Customer Officer (CCO) for Tenstorrent Inc. David Bennett to explore the investment opportunities available in electronics design and manufacturing in Egypt.

The ICT Minister witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between MCIT and Esri North Africa (Esri NA) to enhance cooperation in providing the latest geographic information systems (GIS) software (ArcGIS) for Egyptian public universities and build the capabilities of state employees in ArcGIS solutions.

Talaat discussed cooperation prospects in digital capacity-building with Siemens Digital Industries Software Executive Vice President Mike Ellow and senior officials from Siemens Electronic Design Automation (EDA). The meeting also discussed the company's plans to develop computer-aided design (CAD) tools.

In a similar vein, Talaat met with the Vice President - Global Network Infrastructure at Google Brian Quigley to discuss the company's plans to boost its international network and cooperate with Telecom Egypt in this regard through its infrastructure developed to receive high-density submarine cables.

Concluding his visit to the USA, the ICT Minister met with the Vice President of Product Policy and Strategy at Meta Andy O’Connell.
The meeting delved into fostering cooperation in the company’s business, including developing the international communications infrastructure and boosting the Meta Network (TMN) in collaboration with Telecom Egypt through its infrastructure in Egypt. They also discussed fostering technical cooperation on using Metaverse tools to provide solutions facilitating citizens’ access to digital services.
