NTRA Sets Benchmark for Information Security with ISO 27001 Certification

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has achieved ISO 27001 certification for Information Security Systems in the areas of in-house cybersecurity and digital transformation. This accomplishment was made in collaboration with the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ).

NTRA attainment of ISO 27001 underscores its commitment to implementing international standards in its organizational practices, particularly in securing the circulation of information across networks, information systems, and ICT infrastructure. This achievement reflects NTRA measures adopted to create a secure environment for information exchange and strengthen its information security strategy. Consequently, it supports NTRA global classification and enhances investments within a secure ICT environment, aligning with international standards.

ISO 27001 is the world’s best-known standard for information security management systems (ISMS). It is granted to organizations meeting strict criteria for information security, cybersecurity, and privacy protection.

It's noteworthy that NTRA had previously received ISO 9001 Certification for Organizational Quality Management Systems (QMS) for regulating telecommunication services in the Egyptian market. This achievement was attained for the second consecutive year in 2022, following the initial ISO 9001 QMS certification received in December 2021. This aligns with NTRA strategy to apply international standards in organizational management for telecom service governance.

NTRA, represented by the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT), achieved a global ranking of 23rd on the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2021, out of 193 countries worldwide. In 2022, NTRA was honored with the "Best Cybersecurity Influencing Entity" Award in the 4th edition of the Cybersecurity Innovation Series (CSIS) held in Tunisia. Furthermore, NTRA secured the first position in the 10th cyber drill organized by the ITU Arab Regional Cybersecurity Centre (ARCC). Notably, NTRA reached another milestone by being selected as the vice chairman of ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Group 17 (SG17) for cybersecurity, representing Africa.
