The 20th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), held in Egypt from August 16th to 23rd, 2008, is co-organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Education and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.

IOI is an annual international informatics competition for youths under 20 held in one of the member States in the International Informatics Committee. It is one of the most recognized computer science competitions in the world.

The initiative to organize this year’s IOI in Egypt comes about within Egypt’s special interest in IT and software programming in a bid to promote the Egyptian and Arab youths’ performance in this field as well as other educational complementary ones.
