Egypt Partakes in 1st CEG Steering Committee Meeting

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will partake in the Cyprus-Egypt-Greece Center (CEG) Steering Committee, held on September 13-14, and hosted by the Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, in Nicosia.

The meeting is within the framework of signing the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, on enhancing cooperation in the ICT field, which was signed on 5 July 2017.  The agreement is an outcome of the trilateral presidential summit meeting held in October 2016 between the three countries to strengthen cooperation in ICTS, and establish a specialized center for capacity building and entrepreneurship in Borg El Arab Technology Park.

The Steering Committee is composed of an equal number of representatives from each party, jointly chaired by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt or his representative, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of Cyprus or his representative and the Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information of Greece, aiming to define the scope of work and all details related to the establishment of the CEG center.

Egypt's participation in the CEG Steering Committee meetings, especially its first one, is of great significance, since the meeting will discuss the organizational framework of the Center, examine its execution plan, to be inaugurated in November 2017, as agreed with the Cypriot and Greek parties.

The three-year MoU covers a number of areas of cooperation, including e-skills training and capacity building. The Governments of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece have agreed to establish a specialized center for capacity building and entrepreneurship that will be headquartered in Borg El Arab in Egypt, with offices in Cyprus and Greece. The center aims to train professionals from the three countries on internationally recognized e-skills, and increase opportunities for developing digital skills for their respective workforce through training programs, exchange of experiences and support for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
