ICT Minister Visit to Hungary


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has headed to Budapest, Hungary, on a two-day visit to meet with various officials from the Hungarian government and companies to discuss enhancing cooperation, infusing new investments in the Egyptian ICT sector, and fostering Egypt-Hungary cooperation in related fields.
 
Talaat also participated in a workshop organized by the Hungarian Ministry for National Economy, in cooperation with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Hungary Mohamed El Shinawy. The workshop addressed the Hungarian ICT ecosystem and Egyptian-Hungarian cooperation prospects in the field of emerging technologies.
 
The ICT Minister and the Hungarian Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy witnessed the signing of an agreement on the terms of cooperation between Telecom Egypt and 4iG Plc. The aim of the agreement is to create an express subsea cable between Egypt and Albania, adding a new Mediterranean route and traffic entry to Europe to meet the growing demand for global data traffic from East to West. Under the agreement, a joint venture will be established between the two companies to construct the intercontinental subsea cable project.
 
Talaat and Nagy discussed enhancing cooperation, exchanging experiences in the digital economy and the regulatory aspects of emerging technology adoption, and encouraging companies from the two countries to cooperate in digital technology applications. The two sides also discussed fostering cooperation in research and development (R&D), digital capacity-building, and digital innovation.
 
Furthermore, the ICT Minister also held a meeting with the Hungarian Minister of National Economy, in the presence of 4iG Plc. Chairman Gellért Jászai and Telecom Egypt Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Nasr. They discussed the new express subsea cable between Egypt and Albania to be implemented in cooperation between Telecom Egypt and 4iG Plc.
 
Talaat also met with the State Minister for Bilateral Cooperation at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tamás Menczer. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and deepening Egyptian-Hungarian relations by opening new horizons for ICT cooperation.
 
In a similar vein, the ICT Minister participated in a roundtable organized by the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA), which included various Hungarian ICT companies, in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Hungary and HEPA CEO Gábor Jenei.
 
Talaat also held meetings with officials from ABRIS, GitMax, and CS-Process to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities in ICTs.
