Egypt Launches 4G Mobile Services

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady launched, today, the Fourth Generation (4G) mobile services officially in Egypt, in a celebration organized by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), at Giza Pyramids, in the presence of a large number of ministers, statesmen, ICT sector officials, public and media figures.

The ceremony was attended by NTRA Acting Executive President Mostafa Abdel-Wahed, CEO of Orange Jean Marc Harion, CEO of Vodafone Stefano Gastaut, CEO of Etisalat Egypt Hazem Metwally and Telecom Egypt (TE) Managing Director and CEO Ahmed El Beheiry.

With this official launch, Egypt joins the ranks of the countries that provide 4G services, offering high speed Internet access, image and video transmission services without temporary data buffering, advanced cloud computing services and other telecom services. This will be reflected positively on providing high quality services for subscribers, improving Egypt’s ranking in the indicators of the reports issued by international institutions, especially that Egypt was one of the six countries in the world that hasn’t provided 4G services yet.

Thanks to granting theses 4G licenses to the four telecoms, about  1.1 billion dollars as well as about 10 billion Egyptian pounds were injected to the state’s treasury.
