ICT Minister Receives Egypt New Ambassadors to Russia and Serbia

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has received the Ambassador Ihab Talaat, the candidate for the post of Ambassador of Egypt to the Russian Federation and non-resident Ambassador to Belarus, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, where ElKady discussed the terms of the framework Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Egypt and the Russian Federation, signed— in the presence of the Prime Minister— in March 2016.

During the meeting, they discussed the Letter of Intent (LoI)— attached to the MoU and signed between operators of telecommunications services in both countries—aiming to reduce international roaming tariffs. They underscored the significance of implementing the agreement terms to prepare for the presence of large numbers of Egyptian citizens to encourage the national football team at the World Cup in Russia 2018.

The ICT Minister also underlined the importance of enhancing mutual cooperation and opening effective channels to attract investments. He also invited his Russian and Belarusian counterparts to visit Cairo in December to attend Cairo ICT Conference and participate in the ministerial roundtable that will be held on the sidelines of the Conference.

Moreover, ElKady received the Ambassador Amr Al-Goueli, the candidate for the post of Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia, where they discussed means of boosting bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Serbia in the ICT field.

The ICT Minister reviewed the positive developments achieved by the Egyptian ICT sector, stating that the Egyptian-Serbian cooperation framework should include new horizons to keep up with these developments through the projects that will have a positive return for both countries.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of establishing an Egyptian-Serbian business forum in the ICT field that fosters direct communication between leading companies in both countries and develops opportunities for effective partnerships.

For his part, Al-Goueli hailed the role played by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in the field of international cooperation, which positively strengthens bilateral relations between Egypt and Serbia, praising the significance of the Egyptian ICT sector, being a key sector for the national economy.
