The Closing Ceremony for the Fourth Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics


The Closing Ceremony for the Fourth Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI) was held at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology headquarters in Abu Kir, Alexandria on August 31, 2006, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Arab Academy for Science and Technology.

The event was attended by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Tarek Kamel; Minister of Education, Dr. Youssry El Gamal; and Deputy Governor of Alexandria, General Safaa El Deen Kamel; along with Dr. Gamal El Deen Mokhtar, President of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Dr. Hassan Nadir, President of the university of Alexandria.

This year’s Olympiad aims at promoting the usage of IT in problem solving techniques, encouraging young talents in IT, and bridging the gaps between the youth and experts in the IT field.

The official competition is for youth between the age 15 and 20. Three sideline contests took place including one for children aged 6-10, the other for those with special needs, and the third is a contest that tests capabilities for using English language in IT concepts.

It is worth mentioning that 100 contestants were short-listed for the competition out of a total of 3500 applicants. All participants received intensive training before the final short listing.

The ceremony was attended by MCIT’s executive authorities, university professors and a number of civil organizations.
