ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Contracts between NTRA and Universities to Support Research Projects in ICTs


The ICT Minister Yasser ElKady has witnessed the signing of research projects contracts for the sixth round between the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and universities, institutes and research centers, in the presence of the heads of Egyptian universities and research institutes, and a number of universities’ vice presidents, deans and professors.

The contracts aim to support research and applied projects in universities and specialized institutes according to the needs of the industry, market and national trends in telecommunications. It also aims to enhance young people’s skills through teaching special curricula on "ICT regulation, laws and techniques", and sponsor and fund the graduation projects in the communication departments of different universities to achieve the greatest possible benefit to the Egyptian telecommunications market.

ElKady highlighted the State’s keenness to support scientific researches, especially those related to developing the ICT industry in Egypt, aiming to linking between the market requirements and needs and providing the necessary technological solutions that benefit the industry and society.

He also underscored the significance of launching a package of programs that sponsor national research activities in the ICT field, establishing research centers specialized in telecommunications and developing resources that serve the telecommunications sector in general, and provide modern applications in line with global developments.

For his part, NTRA Acting Executive President Mustafa Abdul Wahid said that NTRA has signed 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to support university research projects, with the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Alexandria, Fayoum, Helwan, Port Said and Assiut, Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology (EJUST) and the Electronics Research Institute (ERI). These MoUs aim to support and enrich the constructive interaction between the research and scientific entities on the one hand and the needs of the industry and the telecommunications market on the other hand, with the aim of achieving an integrated system to serve and develop the Egyptian society.
