ICT Minister Receives Belarusian Minister of Communications and Informatization, Witnesses Signing MoU

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady received, today, the Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Popkov— and his accompanying delegation— who is paying Egypt a two-day visit on April 2-3.

The visit is in light of the positive development of the Belarusian-Egyptian relations following the visit of the President of Belarus to Egypt in mid-January 2017. The two governments have shown great interest in enhancing cooperation in many fields, including the ICT field.

During the meeting, they discussed means of boosting cooperation opportunities in cybersecurity, outsourcing of ICT services, capacity building, electronics industry, innovation and entrepreneurship, technology parks, research and development and other fields.

ElKady welcomed Popkov and his accompanying delegation and hailed the distinguished relations between the two countries in all fields and the keenness of the political leadership of the two countries to open new horizons of cooperation.

He also expressed his wish to promote cooperation with the Belarusian specialized companies with their counterparts in Egypt in the ICT fields; benefit from the investment opportunities that the Egyptian government provides to foreign investors to invest in this promising sector; and exchange experiences between the two countries in relevant fields.

For his part, Popkov underlined the significance of enhancing joint cooperation between Egypt and Belarus in the ICT field in light of the close relations between the two countries at various levels. He expressed his wish to promote joint cooperation in the projects of training and qualifying professional IT calibers; support technological innovation and specialized technological industries; and exchange visions and experiences in the areas of technology parks and cybersecurity.

In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and the Belarusian State Academy of Telecommunications to promote cooperation in the scientific and educational fields, aiming to participate in research and scientific projects and exchange scientific and educational experiences in this field.

The Belarusian Minister and his accompanying delegation toured Smart Village to learn about the developments made in Egypt in the ICT sector.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail is due to sign an agreement between the two ministries of communications in Egypt and Belarus to exchange expertise in the ICT field.
