Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel witnessed today the Closing Ceremony of the Fifth Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI) at Mubarak City for Scientific Research and Technology Applications, 6th of October City.
The contest, held under the auspices of the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology and Education and the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, aims at promoting the usage of IT in problem solving techniques, encouraging young talents in IT, including those with special needs, and bridging the gaps between the youth and experts in the IT field.
The event was also attended by Minister of Education Dr. Yousry El Gamal along with Dr. Gamal El Deen Mokhtar, President of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology.
Eighty contestants were short-listed for the competition out of a total of 6000 applicants. All participants received intensive training before the final short listing.
Dr. Ekram Fathy, president of EOI, stated that the top ranking contestants will participate in the International Olympiad for Informatics (IOI), due to take place in Egypt next year.
