Dr. Kamel Launches Second International Conference on Cybercrime and Information Security


Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel launches the activities of the Second International Conference on Cybercrime and Information Security organized by the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) at its new headquarter in Smart Village in cooperation with Cairo University and Al-Ahram Canadian University in Egypt.

This year the conference aims to discuss a number of crucial issues which impose themselves on the international scene in connection with information security, fighting cybercrimes, and how to handle different aspects of information technology and cybercrime from technological and legal points of views.

Governor of the 6th of October Dr. Fathi Saad, chairman of Al-Ahram Foundation Dr. Abd Elmonem Said, and Honorary Conference Chair and President of Ahram-Canadian University Dr. Farouk Ismail attended the conference.

Egypt is mainly indulged in the issue of IT security and cyber safety, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel said. He added that Egypt has taken great steps towards building a legal structure in connection with important issues; intellectual property, communications and information laws have been issued as well as cyberspace security, cybercrime tracking laws to face cyber-terrorism on the internet.

Dr. Kamel stressed that the Egyptian community does not export cybercrime. At the same time, we are required to be cautious and prepare specialized teams for emergencies in this field.
 
Honorary Conference Chair and President of Ahram-Canadian University Dr. Farouk Ismail said that the conference this year witnessed a distinguished participation by researchers and those interested in IT security and cybercrime from the US, Europe, International Telecommunications Union, Arab countries, and Egypt.

This year's activities of the conference shall feature discussion of a number of specialized researches distributed over 8 sessions. The 1st session shall address the initiative of deploying peace culture using communications and information technology.

Presiding this session is Dr. Hoda Baraka, First Deputy to the Minister of ICT, added Dr. Gamal Darwish, Conference Chair is Dr. Gamal Darwish, Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and IT-ACU at Al-Ahram Canadian University.

Moreover, activities of the conference also include a session on efforts by Ministry of the Interior in terms of securing information. This session was headed by major general Mahmoud Al-Rasheedy, Deputy Minister of the Interior. Another session was held to discuss legal and legislative aspects of IT security headed by major general Dr. Fouad Abdulkader, president of the National Program for Legal Reformation, and advisor Mohamed Al Alfy, president of the Egyptian Anti-cybercrime Community. A last session on IT security headed by Dr. Taher Al Gamal, president of Information Technology Corporation, California, was held.

Furthermore, Dr. Ahmed El-Sherbini, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for International Cooperation and Conference Secretary of the conference said that researches submitted at the conference amounted to 25 generally discussing technical, regulatory, and legal aspects of cybercrimes and information technology.

This conference comes to complement the increase in dependability on communications and IT which led to the emergence of a number of negative aspects in terms of using this technology as rates of hacking, cybercrime, and information theft and using these illegally have rocketed.

This caused a shift in regarding the importance of information security, the urge to protect networks worldwide, the necessity that countries put an end to these threats, and developing new strategies and mechanisms to counter these crimes.
