Dr. Magued Osman meets with the Ugandan Ambassador to Boost Cooperation Between the Two Countries


In the context of Egyptian efforts to boost relations with the African countries, notably those of the Nile Basin, minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Magued Osman met the ambassador of Uganda in Cairo, Mr. Omar Migady today.

Several issues were raised during the meeting such as boosting cooperation between the two countries in ICT sector through activating the Egyptian initiative aiming to develop knowledge societies in the Nile basin countries. The initiative is conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of International Cooperation.

After the meeting, Dr. Osman declared that discussions with the Ugandan ambassador included means to activate the letters of intent signed by both Egyptian and Ugandan ICT ministries during the last official visit to Uganda, in December 2010. This comes as part of the Egyptian initiative aiming at transferring Egyptian expertise and benefiting the neighboring African countries. The initiative mainly targets Nile basin countries tackling the Egyptian leading experience in ICT sector, as a prelude to open an ongoing dialogue.

In this context, Dr. Osman invited the Ugandan ICT minister to visit Egypt in order to further confer means of activating the 7 letters of intent signed between the two sides as well as discussing new domains of cooperation in ICT sector as required by the Ugandan side.

The visit comes within the framework of implementing the strategy of the ICT Egyptian ministry focusing on benefiting from the Egyptian ICT success story as a unique model in order to strengthen the relations between Egypt and the Nile Basin countries.
