Organized by the World Federation for Mobile Operators and hosted in Barcelona, GSMA Mobile World Congress witnessed a focused participation by the Egyptian delegation.
During the four-day event, minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Atef Helmy along with the Spanish minister of Communications and Information Society discussed means of cooperation in different fields of IT modern techniques, including digital identity, commercial trade and exchange of expertise in relates fields.
Mr. Helmy also convened with leaders of Intel Corp. where they talked about ways to activate collaboration in the field of manufacturing and assembling tablet computers.
Moreover, the minister met with the owner and director of Syntel Inc, Mr. patrick lezirias where they talked about a number of issues related to latest developments in converting internet to broadband, as well as means of cooperation and exchange of expertise in the area.
Additionally, ICT minister took part in “using mobile services to improve health” seminar and “mobile and creating new value added” conference, in addition to participating in the events of mobile excellence award in government sector, innovative solutions and mobile initiatives from around the world.
During the events of the second day of the conference, Mr. Helmy convened with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Science City in China to talk about means of cooperation and exchange of expertise in establishing technology parks and canvassed the outcome of last year presidential visit to China.
Furthermore, the minister met with the Turkish minister of Communications and Transport where they discussed activating MoUs between the two countries on projects like tablet computers, IT use in road traffic and various fields of e-commerce.
Mr. Helmy also examined issues of cyberspace security, securing internet access for children, high-speed internet and internet governance with the Vice President of the European Commission
GSMA Mobile World Congress is attended by a number of International governmental organizations such as the United Nations (UN), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), European Union (EU), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and numerous other regional organizations.
The participation is an attempt to create an opportunity for constructive dialogue among various mobile operators, specialized government officials and service and internet companies participating in the event. It also endeavors to identify latest technologies in the industry and constantly discuss means of development.
