ICT Minister, Finnish Ambassador Discuss Cooperation Prospects

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy received today, in his office at Smart Village, the Finnish Ambassador to Egypt Tula Auriola where they discussed means of increasing cooperation and partnership, attracting more investments in the ICT field and activating agreements concluded between the two countries.

During the meeting, means of activating a number of mechanisms towards more cooperation between the two parties on the commercial and investment levels in ICT field were deliberated.

The meeting was attended by Commercial and Investment Manager at the Finnish Embassy John Frank and the Director of the International Relations Division at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Nermine El-Sadaany.

The ministerial visit in April 2012 reaped its fruits in a number of fields which the two parties agreed upon, among which are technological innovation and entrepreneurship, SMEs encouragement and suitable environment for cooperation between private sector companies of both parties.

Other fields include cooperation between Smart Village and its counterparts in Finland, green technology, e-health services, research and development areas, cyber security, and broadband.
The Finnish Ambassador underlined the keenness of her country to promote commercial cooperation between the two sides as the ICT sector in Egypt is a significant pillar to develop such collaboration. She also confirmed Nokia’s interest in expanding its scope of business in Egypt.

Moreover, Auriola emphasized the eagerness of the Finnish part to focus on business cooperation with Egypt to increase the size of commercial activity between them in ICT fields.

She has opined establishing an Egyptian-Finnish business council under the umbrella of the Finnish Embassy in Cairo as an initiating step until companies of both sides could take over later.
The Finnish Ambassador has extended an invitation to the ICT Minister, to be a guest of honor, in the inauguration of the council in December.

For his part, Helmy welcomed promoting and activating cooperation fields with the Finnish part, underscoring Egypt’s steadfast steps in carrying on with the roadmap to guarantee security and aspired economic growth in the coming period.

Furthermore, the ICT Minister expressed the keenness of the Egyptian part in enhancing constructive cooperation with active partners and translate this into giant projects that provide true job opportunities and achieve an added value in favor of the national economy and serving the Egyptian citizen.

Helmy highlighted how the ICT sector survived in light of political and social changes taking place in Egypt lately . He emphasized the fundamental elements the ICT sector possess which qualified it to overcome crisis, thanks to efforts of all Egyptians whether in public, private sector or civil society organizations among others of concerned bodies who were keen to protect the growth and development of the sector.
