Under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the National Committee for Child Online Safety has organized a workshop on internet safety in the premises of MCIT at Smart Village.
The workshop, initiated by the Chairman of the ITU Council Working Group on Child Online Protction Sherif Hashem, has highlighted societal changes due to technology advancement and showcases solutions to confront current challenges.
During the workshop, the regional comparative report for GSMA was launched--in the presence of GSM representative Samantha Lench—in which Egypt participated along with three Arab countries: Algeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia regarding the patterns of child use of mobiles.
Representatives of participating companies attended the workshop to showcase their experiences, participations in this study, and benefits.
The National committee for Child Online Safety launched the first guidelines booklet for the safe use entitled: “Together for Safe Internet”. It entails a group of guidelines targeting different categories for child online protection.
Moreover, a workshop entitled “Digital Society Forum” was held under the sponsorship of Mobinil. The workshop comprised a number of experts in the field of child online safety presented by Orange, Microsoft, TEData and Egypt ICT Trust Fund.
The workshop was held by a number of trainers from the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood and technology homes.
The international expert, Orange Social Responsibility Department Deputy Director Thierry Taboy was among the main speakers.
He tackled the psychological and social dimensions for technology uses, as well as the right methods that parents should adopt to guide their children for the sound use of new technologies.
Thanks to Microsoft, attendees got acquainted with the most important protection software for Windows, parental control tools, security tools on Internet Explorer and means to identify inappropriate programs. MCIT presented privacy and protection tools on social networks.
