ICT Minister Discusses with Uganda FM Cooperation in Infrastructure


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm has received in his office Uganda Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa, during his visit to Egypt, where they discussed means to promote cooperation between the two countries, particularly in ICT field such as infrastructure. Telecom Egypt CEO Mohamed El Nawawy was present during the meeting.

Kutesa has announced his country’s plan to build a technology park in the capital Kampala, and has requested Egypt’s support by benefiting of the country’s experience in building and managing such projects.

Nawawy has presented Telecom Egypt’s project “Victoria – Rashid”  that is meant to extend fiber optics to Uganda and the rest of the Nile Basin countries through the Nile River, thereby enhancing the capacity of the Nile Basin countries’ infrastructure.

Partnerships between Egypt and Uganda include areas of training, development and human capacity  in ICT field. A specialized training program for 120 Ugandan calibers in BPO field has been concluded to train 3000 Ugandan youth.

Egypt has organized a number of training programs for Ugandan youth that prepared and qualified them to inaugurate Uganda-CERT.

Negm has extended an invitation to his Ugandan counterpart to visit Egypt; Uganda FM has promised to coordinate with the ICT minister to set the date of the visit.
