ICT Minister, Gambian Counterpart Discuss Enhancing Cooperation in ICTs


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat received, today, the Gambian Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure Ebrima Sillah, who is currently visiting Egypt heading a high level delegation including a number of executive officials and representatives of communication companies in Gambia.

They discussed enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Gambia in ICTs, especially capacity building, honing skills and training.

The two ministers headed an extensive meeting that included officials of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Gambian delegation. The two sides presented the two countries’ visions of developing the ICT sector and qualifying human calibers in different technology specializations.

During the meeting, Talaat underlined the significance of strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries in ICTs, and said that the visit will include a series of meetings between the two sides to discuss avenues of cooperation in various ICT specializations.

For his part, Sillah highlighted his country’s eagerness to qualify specialized human calibers in ICTs, and stressed that he is keen on leveraging Egyptian expertise in capacity building, especially in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and honing youth skills in the framework of the African App Launchpad (AAL) presidential initiative. He stated that the visit will witness signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries to enhance joint cooperation in ICTs.

The two sides agreed on cooperating in postal services. In addition, Talaat invited his counterpart to participate in the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 (WRC-19) that Egypt is hosting in Sharm El Sheikh next October, which is one of the key events organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), attended by heads of regulatory authorities from all over the world, and key players in spectrum management.

From the Egyptian side, the meeting was attended by Vice ICT Minister for Digital Transformation, Automation and Administrative Development Khaled El Attar, Chairman of the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Essam Al-Saghir, Associate ICT Minister for Networks and ICT Infrastructure Hossam El-Gamal, Acting Director of the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) Iman Ashour, Chairwoman of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) Heba Saleh, ICT Minister's Advisor for Technology Innovation, Electronics and Training Hossam Osman, ICT Minister’s Advisor for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Golestan Radwan, Director of the International Relations Division at MCIT Mohamed El Gawsaky, and a number of MCIT officials.

From the Gambian side, the meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure (MOICI) Amie Njie, a number of MOICI officials, officials of the Gambian Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), and heads of a number of ICT companies in Gambia.

The Gambian delegation took a tour in Smart Village to explore closely the Egyptian ICT sector. The three-day visit is due to include a number of meetings with officials of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Telecom Egypt, ENPO, ITI, the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), NTI, and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
