Egyptian-Swedish Roundtable on Smart and Sustainable Cities


A roundtable on building and managing smart and sustainable cities is to hold today in which the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm, the Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Charlotta Sparre and a number of ICT leaders are to participate.

The Dialogue aims to present and discuss the concept of smart and sustainable cities and the potential opportunities and challenges that may confront countries when applying this concept.

The dialogue session tackles a review on global technological trends in this area and the efforts exerted, to date, in this regard in Egypt.  It also discusses the services that Sweden can provide, via its Government and the private sector, to Egypt for its considerable experience in this area, and how to encourage the growth of this concept in practice to be applied in Egypt through the ICT sector.

The Trade Commissioner of the Swedish Trade and Investment Council to UAE and Egypt Jan Klasson is to conduct the dialogue, and a number of high officials are taking part in the dialogue including the Governor of Cairo Jalal Al-Said and the Governor of Giza Khaled Al-Adly.

This  in addition to a group of Swedish industry experts to present the pioneering Swedish experience in this promising area, including Head of Ericsson North East Africa Aushil Yalcin, Head of Customer Unit Industry and Society, Middle East and East Africa Rutger Reman and the  Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) Chief Economist Bo Anderson.

The dialogue is part of the growing relations between Egypt’s ICT sector, the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo and Swedish companies operating in Egypt, which resulted in the ICT Egypt-Sweden Forum held in December 2014.
