ICT Minister, French Companies Representatives Discuss Cooperation in Promoting Entrepreneurship, Innovation

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with Gaultier Brand-Gazeau, the Head of International Affairs at Station F, the world’s biggest startup campus. They discussed cooperation in ICT areas and leveraging the French expertise in promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as establishing partnerships in startup investment.

Talaat presented the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in fostering entrepreneurship and self-employment, developing technological innovation skills through implanting technology nationwide, creating an enabling environment for innovation, spotting and nurturing talents, promoting technological incubators, empowering Egyptian startups, and stimulating the growth of non-traditional funding systems.

For his part, the French side presented the French government strategy to support entrepreneurship and the technology eco-system in France.

The two sides discussed cooperation in carrying out joint programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cooperation to facilitate the incubation of Egyptian startups in Station F programs.

Station F occupies an area measuring 34,000 m2, providing workspace for 1000 startups, in collaboration with major international companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, and others.

Moreover, Talaat met with Olivier Ducourant, the Director of International Development at Ecole 42, a non-profit educational institution specialized in programming, providing training programs innovatively.

They discussed possible cooperation and exchanged views on promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship in IT. They also discussed the possibility of establishing a branch of Ecole 42 in Egypt; collaborating in transferring expertise and benefiting young people in Egypt and Africa; and translating the training material provided by Ecole 42 into Arabic.

The meetings were attended by the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Hala El Gohary, the Associate Minister for Networks and ICT Infrastructure Hossam El-Gamal, the ICT Minister’s Advisor for AI Golestan Radwan, and a number of MCIT officials.

The ICT Minister met, this morning, with the French Minister of State for the Digital Sector during his visit to France that comprises a number of meetings with government officials and representatives of international ICT companies, to discuss enhancing cooperation in ICTs, particularly capacity building and AI.
