Egypt Partakes in ICANN 55 in Morocco

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady headed for Marrakech, this morning, leading a delegation representing the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), to participate in ICANN 55, taking place on March 6-7.

ICANN 55 is significant for taking place after the completion of the comprehensive review of the outcomes of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) held in December 2015.

The meeting will also be held in a time when open consultations on the transfer of Internet management, from the United States to an international management under a specific international organization, is due to be completed.
ElKady is due to participate in a meeting on the "Future of the Internet Initiative" organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy, on March 6.

The meeting discussions are set to tackle the forum initiative on the future of the Internet, and how to transform the African continent to the digital economy. In this context, the ICT Minister will present Egypt's vision on the challenges facing the African continent regarding the transition to the digital economy, and how to use IT tools to achieve that, and realize the benefits of the growing digital economy community.

The minister will, also, participate in the opening session of ICANN Third High Level Governmental Meeting (HLGM) on March 7, which includes a large number of senior international officials in this field, scheduled to discuss several issues related to the future of the Internet and network security, in addition to a number of topics relating to the names of Top-Level Domains.
