ICT Minister Honors Two Winners of Second Best Mobile Startup Worldwide


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has honored the two entrepreneurs Samira and Ahmed Negm who won the world’s second best mobile startup prize in a competition on best mobile startups at GSMA Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona during February.

The two siblings Samira and Ahmed Negm invented a new application, named "Raye7", a technology application designed to serve those who seek ridesharing. It was incubated within the technological incubators program of the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), affiliated to the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).

ElKady has stated that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) strongly supports innovations brought by young people, which represent a great value to human society, adding that “Raye7” was able to win the second prize as the best mobile startup application during one of the most key specialized global forums in this field.

Developed in 2014, "Raye7" application automatically and instantaneously coordinates between users and drivers and transport companies to provide carpooling service which contributes in easing traffic congestion and realizing smooth traffic flow in Egypt’s streets. It predetermines home and work addresses for a group of friends and colleagues by using the tracking technology Global Positioning System (GPS) and through personal data derived from social media, such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

"Raye7" is one of the distinct applications in terms of cultural aspects that takes into account the different dimensions of traveling using means of transportation. This application is considered a social platform through which users can travel using the different means of transportation through a network of trusted people. The applications is used better within closed communities, such as companies, universities and closed residential communities.

MCIT has established TIEC in 2010 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the ICT field in Egypt. TIEC seeks to promote Egypt as a global competitor in the field of innovations. It is the first center in Egypt, the second in Africa and the fourth in the Middle East and Africa region in terms of being an accredited member at the European Business Network (EBN).
