The Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat have witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), for developing the Ministry of Immigration’s IT systems and infrastructure.
Makram stated that this cooperation comes in implementation of the State’s strategy and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s directives for achieving the digital transformation in all the State sectors. This also comes within the Ministry of Immigration’s role, as it deals with the Egyptian expatriates and represents the Egyptian government in connecting citizens overseas with their homeland.
It was important to take all the necessary steps for the Ministry of Immigration to achieve the optimum form of digital transformation in the Egyptian government, said Markam. This comes as the Ministry of Immigration is relatively new, hence not overburdened with complicated routine procedures or a large number of employees, and given the connections it has with various government bodies and different segments of expatriates, which forms a wide range of responsibilities, on top of which is communication, she added.
The ICT Minister highlighted that the cooperation between the two ministries comes within the framework of synergizing the efforts of all the State bodies and institutions, to implement the State’s strategy for building the digital Egypt. This also comes in MCIT keenness to carry out plans for integrated information systems development and modernization, he added.
Talaat said that the protocol aims to achieve a fruitful and constructive cooperation between the two ministries, to develop the IT infrastructure, achieve governance, reform and institutional and administrative development for the Ministry of Immigration, and render decent digital services to the Egyptian expatriates.
The three year protocol’s estimated budget is EGP 40 million. It stipulates that the two ministries cooperate in carrying out a renewal plan for the system for raising the efficiencies required for managing the digital transformation process at the Ministry of Immigration.
The scope of work includes raising the efficiency of the IT systems, including hardware and software, providing technical support in managing the IT systems, training the employees at the Ministry of Immigration, who are responsible for providing support and developing the IT systems, and helping recruit qualified calibers for managing the digital transformation.
The protocol was signed by the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure Raafat Hindy, and the Advisor to the Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates for IT and Digital Transformation Khaled Sherif.
