The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abd El Ghaffar and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat have held a meeting via videoconference to follow up on the implementation of e-exams system, automation of university hospitals and digitization of universities.
At the beginning of the meeting, Abd El Ghaffar stressed the importance of digital universities project, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to transform the Egyptian universities into digital ones and develop their communications infrastructure to meet their requirements in achieving digital transformation.
Abd El Ghaffar also emphasized the political leadership’s interest in the national project of automating university hospitals, which aims to raise the efficiency of medical and therapeutic services delivered to patients, pointing out that this helps save time and effort of hospital staff; this is also implemented in accordance with the mandates of the President of Egypt to foster cooperation between both ministries.
For his part, the ICT Minister Amr Talaat pointed out that there is an ongoing cooperation between both ministries to implement several integrated projects to benefit from the opportunities provided by the digital technologies to develop the university education system and the educational process, especially in light of the political leadership’s interest in the importance of digital transformation of education and in view of the implementation of Digital Egypt Building Strategy.
Talaat also highlighted the major areas of cooperation between both ministries, including the automated exams system and smart university applications to transform universities into digital ones and raise the efficiency of their technological infrastructure as well as the implementation of the automation of university hospitals project.
The meeting addressed the procedures for completing the technological infrastructure at Egyptian universities and the discussion of universities’ needs in terms of supporting them with advanced servers, developing and raising the efficiency of intranet of some faculties in government universities, increasing internet speed within universities and establishing specialized labs in the area of internet of things; the meeting also discussed the procedures accomplished for the automated exams project.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy ICT Minister for Administrative Development, Digital Transformation and Automation Khaled El Attar, the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and the Director of Telecommunication and Infrastructure sector Raafat Hindy, the Assistant Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, the Director of e-Health Services Department Khaled Metwally from MCIT, and the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals and the Chairman of the Joint Committee for e-Testing and the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Hossam Abd El Ghaffar, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities Mohamed Latif, the Assistant Minister of Higher Education for Digital Transformation Hisham Farouk, the Head of Development and Services Sector Ahmed El Sheikh and the Director of Digital Transformation Unit Naser El Amir from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as by a number of officials from both ministries.
