ICT Minister Chairs ESCC Meeting

The Egyptian Supreme Cybersecurity Council (ESCC) has held its periodic meeting under the chairmanship of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat.

The meeting reviewed the main pillars of the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2022-2026, which aims to fully secure the telecommunications and information infrastructure to create a safe environment for the state sectors to provide full electronic services. The Strategy also aims to unify the national visions to address cyberattacks, raise society and corporates’ awareness of cyber security, and advance scientific research and innovation.

During the meeting, the ICT Minister said that it is important that the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2022-2026 be in line with the technological advancements and latest cybersecurity technologies. The aim is to address the global challenges and risks posed by cyberattacks in a way that furthers the country’s efforts in building Digital Egypt, through which government services are digitized, and electronic transactions are adopted.

Talaat underlined that Egypt is keen to protect cyberspace and secure the telecommunications and information infrastructures as a fundamental pillar in building a robust digital economy. He stressed the need to focus on human development and invest in raising people’s awareness, which represents a key and solid strategic objective.

The meeting discussed the objectives attained, the initiatives launched, and the sessions organized to raise awareness of cybersecurity. The campaign launched last October on the occasion of Cybersecurity Awareness Month was also discussed during the meeting. The campaign will be implemented on a wide scale in state institutions and government agencies, to raise awareness of cybersecurity.

The meeting touched on the efforts made to raise awareness of cybersecurity among employees of the state’s administrative apparatus of different levels. The efforts are part of a program aimed at raising awareness of the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2017-2021. The meeting reviewed the articles and provisions of the draft cybersecurity law, which aims to achieve legislative integration and regulate work in cybersecurity.

The National Cybersecurity Strategy 2022-2026 is part of the state’s efforts to support national security, develop Egyptian society, and detect and overcome future cyberattacks and challenges in the digital society. It will help bring about comprehensive socioeconomic development, protect citizens from risks in cyberspace, and protect national interests.
