ICT Minister, Armenian Ambassador Discuss Cooperation in ICT


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received the Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt Hrachya Poladyan to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries in ICT fields, especially digital transformation, capacity building and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

During the meeting, Talaat stressed the depth of Egyptian-Armenian ties and said that he looks forward to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in ICT.

The ICT Minister reviewed the pillars of Digital Egypt strategy, which is implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The pillars include achieving digital transformation, building digital capacity and fostering technological innovation and entrepreneurship. He pointed out that Egypt has achieved a significant progress in digital transformation in light of the rapid and ongoing evolution of the ICT industry.

Talaat also highlighted MCIT readiness to offer training opportunities to the Armenian youth in Cairo, as part of the various capacity building programs powered by MCIT and in light of the establishment of Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), a specialized university in ICT sciences and related fields.

The ICT Minister invited his Armenian counterpart through the Ambassador to visit Egypt in the near future to closely explore Egypt’s ICT sector and the boom that Egypt is witnessing in digital transformation.

The meeting also reviewed the advancements in the ICT sector in both countries and stressed the importance of cooperation to benefit from ICTs to achieve the development goals in both countries.

For his part, Poladyan highlighted the efforts made in the Armenian ICT sector and provided the ICT Minister with a file containing information about the sector and the most prominent Armenian ICT companies. The Ambassador also highlighted the possibility of holding a business forum that brings together ICT companies from both countries to explore possible opportunities of cooperation. He also stressed the Armenian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission, planned to be held in 2022, and suggested signing an MOU to enhance cooperation.

The Armenian Ambassador also invited the ICT Minister to the Third International Exhibition of Arms and Defense Technologies (ArmHighTech-2022), which will be held in Yerevan at the end of March.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on issuing a commemorative stamp in both countries to celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing Egyptian-Armenian diplomatic ties.
