The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with the Minister of ICT and Innovation of Rwanda Paula Ingabire, to discuss fostering cooperation in ICT areas, including digital transformation, innovation, entrepreneurship and the post. The meeting has been held on the sidelines of the ICT Minister's participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
The meeting has discussed aspects of cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhancing technical training and capacity building of Rwandan calibers in various technical fields. In this context, Talaat has reviewed the initiatives of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to prepare digital professionals in various technology fields. He stated that Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) has been established to create a generation of informatics experts. During the meeting, the ICT Minister discussed inviting Rwandan students to study at the EUI.
The two sides have also discussed means to enhance cooperation in the IT field by sending missions to explore the Rwandan ICT market to identify the opportunities available to Egyptian companies to present their products. This is in addition to discussing cooperation in the field of promoting digital transformation and developing applications necessary for the establishment and management of smart cities; and how to benefit from the Egyptian expertise in developing the post and its various services to enable Rwandan Post to implement its modernization plans.
The meeting has been attended by the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Amr Mahfouz, the Assistant Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) at MCIT Mohamed Nasr, and Egypt Post Vice-Chairman for Digital Transformation Ehab Abu Bakr.
In a related context, Talaat has held a meeting with the CEO of Cisco Systems Chuck Robbins, where the meeting discussed opportunities for expansion of Cisco investments in Egypt.
The meeting has reviewed "Digital Egypt" strategy for outsourcing which aims to enhance Egypt's competitive capabilities in this significant industry, including the new incentives offered to investors. Cisco has been invited to take advantage of these incentives to expand its business in Egypt.
The meeting has also discussed means of cooperation in the field of digital capacity building through participating in the initiatives launched by MCIT and its to provide specialized technical training for young people in various fields of technology.
The meeting has been attended by ITIDA CEO Amr Mahfouz, the Assistant Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr, and Telecom Egypt Managing Director and CEO Adel Hamed.
The ICT Minister has also met with OPPO Vice President of Overseas Sales and Service Billy Zhang. The meeting has discussed pumping investments in the field of electronics manufacturing through establishing a mobile phones factory for OPPO in Egypt.
The meeting has been attended by ITIDA CEO Amr Mahfouz, the Assistant Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr and OPPO Vice President of Oversea Sales Scott Zhang.
It is noteworthy that the ICT Minister has participated in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, heading a delegation from MCIT. During the visit, two agreements have been signed to enhance cooperation to strengthen the international telecommunications network. This is in addition to holding four meetings with other ministers to enhance Arab and African cooperation in the ICT field, as well as holding extensive discussions with nine international companies on investment incentives and investment opportunities in the ICT sector. Talaat has also participated in a session, on the sidelines of the Congress, where he has delivered a speech on the role that ICT play in confronting the repercussions of climate change and the Egyptian efforts exerted in this regard.
