ICT Minister, Lithuanian Transport Minister Discuss Cooperation in Digital Government, Infrastructure Development


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Marius Skuodis. They have discussed enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences between the two countries in digital government as well as ICT and Post infrastructure development.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Lithuania (and in the Kingdom of Denmark) Mohamed Karim Fouad Sherif has attended the meeting.
 
During the meeting, the ICT Minister reviewed the progress achieved by Egypt in digital transformation and its strategic plan to transform the government into a participatory paperless smart one, within the framework of synergizing the efforts of the state's sectors to build Digital Egypt.
 
The ICT Minister pointed out that a development plan is being implemented for Egypt Post in terms of office structure and services. It includes automation, modernization, and expansion of post offices.
 
The ICT Minister added that mobile post vehicles have also been introduced in the Egyptian villages. This is in addition to diversifying the service provision to include postal, financial and government services, and maximizing its capabilities to provide services to e-commerce customers.
 
Efforts to develop ICT infrastructure in Egypt and means to benefit from Lithuanian experiences in this field, especially in connecting the villages, were also discussed. Furthermore, the "Decent Life" presidential initiative, which aims to develop the Egyptian villages and raise the standard of living of about 60 million citizens, in more than 4,500 villages, was also reviewed. Through the initiative, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) establishes fiber-optic cable networks in targeted villages to provide high-speed Internet services to more than 3.5 million homes.
 
 For his part, Skuodis reviewed the Lithuanian experience in restructuring and developing the services of Lietuvos Paštas, as well as in digitizing services provided to citizens. Enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences in these areas were also discussed. This is in addition to discussing enhancing cooperation between Egypt Post and Lietuvos Paštas in express mail shipments and parcels.
 
 In a related context, Talaat met with the Director of Innovation Agency Lithuania Romualda Stragienė, in the presence of Sherif.
 
The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation between the two countries in using emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in providing innovative solutions to the government and focusing on various significant areas, such as the environment, agriculture, water, and health.
 
During the meeting, the two sides explored the innovative solutions developed at the Innovation Agency as part of its projects aimed at helping the public sector tackle challenges using emerging technologies. The Agency also collaborates with start-ups and small businesses to develop innovative solutions.
 
MCIT delegation presented the projects that the Applied Innovation Center (AIC) carries out, producing solutions to the challenges faced by Egyptian society.
 
The two sides discussed enhancing collaboration between AIC and the Innovation Agency to come up with innovative solutions in areas of common interest.
 
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister is paying a two-day visit to Lithuania. He is due to meet with ministers, government officials, and major institutions and businesses to strengthen ties between the two countries in ICT fields.
 
The meeting was attended by Head of AIC Ahmed Tantawy and Vice President for Electronic Transactions Security at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Hazem Nabil.
