ICT Minister Partakes in CII Business Event, Meets Officials from Indian ICT Companies


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has held an extensive meeting with officials from major Indian ICT companies, during a business event organized by the Egyptian Commercial Representation (ECS) in India, in coordination with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in Bangalore.

The aim was to highlight the attractive investment opportunities in Egypt and invite Indian companies to invest in the Egyptian ICT sector and cooperate in implementing Digital Egypt projects.

In his remarks, the ICT Minister presented the measures taken to attract foreign investment and develop the IT industry in Egypt. He referred to country’s efforts to achieve digital transformation through several projects that hold huge investment opportunities.

The ICT Minister also pointed to Egypt’s plan to indigenize the electronics manufacturing industry. He added that some of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers have lately set up shop in Egypt, serving both the local and regional markets.

Moreover, Talaat met with officials from Wipro, headed by CEO of the APMEA (Asia Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa) Strategic Market Unit Anis Chenchah. Wipro is s a leading technology services and consulting company focused on building innovative solutions that address clients’ most complex digital transformation needs.

The two sides discussed Digital Egypt projects and opportunities of cooperation with Wipro, especially with the availability of a highly-qualified ICT talent pool. The ICT Minister presented the capacity-building efforts made by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and its affiliates.

In a similar vein, Talaat met with Global Head, Consulting and Digital Services at Tech Mahindra Padma Parthasarathy; and Chief Delivery Officer and Global Head, Infrastructure and Cloud Services Sudhir Nair. They addressed Tech Mahindra’s solutions and technologies such as Metaverse, and explored the company’s expansion plans in Egypt. The meeting also shed light on Egypt’s thriving BPO industry.

The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation also met with the Managing Partner, Global Delivery at IBM Consulting Amit Sharma and Director of IBM Client Experience Center Arnab Saha. They discussed plans to expand in IBM global delivery business from Cairo. The Indian side presented the Center’s activities in terms of the services provided and the technologies used.

The meetings were attended by Acting CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr Eldin.

It is worth noting that the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation are visiting India on January 9-13. They are meeting with Indian government officials and CEOs of major ICT companies to discuss enhancing cooperation and attracting investments to the Egyptian market.
