ICT Minister Receives Head of Samsung Electronics-Egypt

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received the Head of Samsung Electronics-Egypt Jun Su Jung and his accompanying delegation. They agreed on establishing a smartphone factory across 6,000 square meters in Beni Suef to cater to Samsung's customers in Egypt.

About 1,400 direct and indirect job opportunities will be created through the plant for Egyptians, especially in Upper Egypt. Construction is to start in the fourth quarter of 2023. The factory will deliver the latest models of Samsung smartphones, made by Egyptian hands and global technology. It will help transfer technology and technical know-how to the Egyptian market, thus supporting the indigenization of the mobile phone industry in Egypt.

During the meeting, the ICT Minister remarked that Egypt has become a favorable destination attracting major electronics manufacturers to operate in Egypt and cater to the local and regional markets. This came as a result of the efforts to attract investment in the electronics industry and indigenize that key industry to fulfill Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) strategy.

The Egyptian government is keen to introduce incentive schemes for investors and provide a workforce well-versed in electronics-related specializations, noted the ICT Minister. The new Samsung factory builds on the productive cooperation with Samsung Electronics, which paid off with the manufacturing of educational tablets in Egypt, he added.

The meeting was attended by the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher and Assistant Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy.
