In France, ICT Minister Holds Meetings with OECD, Teleperformance, Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Officials

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and officials of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in Paris, France. They discussed enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and OECD.

The meeting cast light on the prominent aspects of the ongoing cooperation, including within the framework of the Egypt Country Program and the participation in cooperation mechanisms by OECD, including committees and task forces on emerging technologies such as AI, digital infrastructure, data governance, and indicators. They also discussed strengthening the role of the Egyptian ICT sector in promoting OECD policies in the Middle East and Africa. MCIT efforts and participation in OECD committees to develop policies and standards on technology were also highlighted.

During the meeting, Talaat underlined that Egypt values the significant role of OECD. He said that he looked forward to enhancing cooperation in developing policies on technology and digital transformation by learning from relevant experiences of major economies to build trust in the ICT sector and attract more investments in Egypt.

For his part, OECD Secretary-General commended Egypt's efforts in implementing the Country Program and the progress made by MCIT in joint projects, most notably digital transformation indices and the AI project.

The meeting touched on the efforts made to build the digital capacity of school students, including at We Applied Technology Schools, to hone their skills in top ICT specializations such as AI, robotics, and cybersecurity.

The ICT Minister also met with Teleperformance CEO Karine Jan. They discussed ways to expand the company's business in Egypt and the incentives and facilitations that Egypt offers to attract investors in the outsourcing industry within the framework of the Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry. MCIT efforts in shaping a talent pool to cater to international outsourcing companies were presented at the meeting.

Teleperformance is a global digital business services company headquartered in France. It operates in 58 countries and has six offices in Egypt.

From Nokia France, Talaat met with President Pierre-Gaël Chantereau and senior officials. They discussed Nokia's cutting-edge telecom infrastructure technologies, most notably 5G connectivity and its various uses in different industries. The meeting also shed light on the expansion of Nokia’s business and investments in Egypt with the availability of a skilled workforce and advanced infrastructure.

The ICT Minister took a tour of Nokia's labs. He explored the tech solutions developed to maintain sustainability in digital transformation projects, in addition to Nokia’s R&D, corporate infrastructure, and 5G network security projects.

Moreover, Talaat held a meeting with President of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) Nicolas Brunel. ALE is a communications equipment company. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Egypt to France Alaa Youssef. The meeting discussed the potential global expansion of ALE, including to Egypt, capitalizing on investment incentives in the Egyptian ICT sector, including trained young talents.

The meetings were attended by the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, Advisor for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) at MCIT Adel Hamed, and Director of the Central Department of International Relations Samah Aziz.

It is worth mentioning that the ICT Minister is visiting Paris to participate in Viva Technology (VivaTech) on behalf of the President of the Republic. He is due to hold meetings with government officials and representatives of French ICT firms to discuss collaboration and investment opportunities in the ICT sector.
