In USA, ICT Minister Witnesses Signing of MoU with VMware; Meets Officials from VXI, MediaTek, Synopsys


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the signing of an MOU between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and VMware, in San Francisco, US, on launching a Multi-Cloud initiative under VMware IT Academy. VMware is a leading provider of cloud infrastructure services.

The initiative is aimed at training 5,000 people in the first year in different tracks: multi-cloud, software development, telecommunications, and Train the Trainer (TTT), which starts with 100-150 trainers.

The MOU was signed by the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure Raafat Hindy and Chief Technology Officer at VMware Kit Colbert.

Following the signing ceremony, the ICT Minister met with the CEO of VMware Raghu Raghuram. They discussed collaboration in digital transformation and digital capacity building, in addition to the expansion of VMware Egypt.

For his part, Raghuram referred to VMware’s major projects in infrastructure, digital applications, and capacity building. He highlighted that the company is keen on expanding its business in those areas in Egypt and praised VMware Egypt’s highly skilled staff.

In a similar vein, Talaat met with the COO of VXI Global Solutions Jared Morrison; they discussed plans for establishing a VXI call center in Egypt. VXI Global Solutions is a BPS leader in customer service, customer experience, and digital solutions.

The meeting shed light on the investment incentives offered within Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry to attract international companies to export digital services from Egypt. They also discussed the capacity-building programs implemented by MCIT and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) to upskill graduates and people working in the outsourcing industry. The programs help build a skill pool in different areas, including offshoring call centers, business process outsourcing, and shared services.

The ICT Minister held another meeting with the General Manager of the Solutions Group at Synopsys Joachim Kunkel. Synopsys is a leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) tools and semiconductor IP solutions. They discussed Synopsys’ interest in expanding its IC design business with local partner Si-Vision, in Egypt. They also agreed on introducing new business areas and enhancing collaboration in capacity building.

The meeting highlighted Egypt’s efforts to develop its electronics industry, including in semiconductors, embedded systems, and electronic design. Reference was also made to MCIT plan for attracting more electronic design centers and boosting exports in this field.

Furthermore, Talaat met with the President of North American operations at MediaTek Lawrence Loh. MediaTek is one of the world's largest fabless semiconductor suppliers. Points of discussion included the company’s expansion in the IC design business in Egypt through InfiniLink and ways to take advantage of the talent pool and attractive eco-system in Egypt.

The meetings were attended by Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure Raafat Hindy, Advisor to the ICT Minister for Micro Technology Industries Yehea Ismail, and Electronics Industry Program Director at ITIDA Yasser Abdel Bary.
