Concluding his visit to the USA, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between MCIT and Esri North Africa (Esri NA) to enhance cooperation in providing the latest geographic information systems (GIS) software (ArcGIS) for Egyptian public universities and build the capabilities of state employees in ArcGIS solutions.
The agreement was signed by the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure Raafat Hindy and General Manager of International Strategies at ESRI Middle East and Africa Sohail Elabd.
Following the signing ceremony, means of cooperation with Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) were discussed to add modern geomatics specializations to EUI educational programs.
The ICT Minister discussed cooperation prospects in digital capacity-building with Siemens Digital Industries Software Executive Vice President Mike Ellow and senior officials from Siemens Electronic Design Automation (EDA), in the presence of Vice President, Siemens EDA, Siemens Digital Industry in the Middle East and North Africa Hazem EL Tahawy. The meeting also discussed the company's plans to develop computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
In a similar vein, Talaat met with the Vice President - Global Network Infrastructure at Google Brian Quigley to discuss the company's plans to boost its international network and cooperate with Telecom Egypt in this regard through its infrastructure developed to receive high-density submarine cables. They also discussed opportunities for cooperation in providing cloud computing services to different state sectors to serve the state's plan for achieving digital transformation.
The ICT Minister concluded his visit to the USA by meeting with the Vice President of Product Policy and Strategy at Meta Andy O’Connell. The meeting delved into fostering cooperation in the company’s business, including developing the international communications infrastructure and boosting the Meta Network (TMN) in collaboration with Telecom Egypt through its infrastructure in Egypt. They also discussed fostering technical cooperation on using Metaverse tools to provide solutions facilitating citizens’ access to digital services.
The meetings were attended by the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Mohamed Nasr, Advisor to the ICT Minister for Micro Technology Industries Yehea Ismail, Electronics Industry Program Director at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Yasser Abdel Bary, and Director of Central Department of International Relations at MCIT Samah Aziz.
It is worth noting that Talaat visited the USA to discuss enhancing Egypt-US cooperation in ICTs and attracting more investments. He held meetings with the US Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology, several congressmen, and various officials from major ICT international companies. He also met with a number of Egyptian expatriates, young businessmen, different prominent ICT figures residing in the USA, various companies that are members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC), and members of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA).
