The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has received, in his office in Smart Village, the Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt Armen Melkonian where they discussed means of cooperation between the two countries in the ICT sector. The meeting pursues recommendation of the Armenian-Egyptian Business Forum that was held last May, where experts from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) took part.

Both parties, during the meeting, discussed a number of proposals that aim at promoting means of ICT cooperation between the two countries. They also conferred other crucial topics including the transfer of Egyptian expertise to build a software testing center, the establishment of a Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) in Armenia and the delivery of cybersecurity training.

Moreover, both parties discussed establishing headquarters in one of Armenia’s technology parks to introduce Egyptian technology parks, and another in one of Egypt’s technology parks to introduce Armenian technology parks. Both locations could be used to facilitate businesses of the two countries.

Talks also tackled connecting the Egyptian Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) with its counterpart in Armenia. Coordination to organize competitions for entrepreneurs and joint programs for small and medium sized enterprises, that will drive entrepreneurship and introduce different types of funding, are expected to take place soon.

ElKady and Melkonian talked about maximizing the benefits of trade agreements, by which the two countries are committed, to open new markets for companies, particularly the Eurasian Economic Community Agreement. This could be achieved by means of introducing Egyptian and Armenian companies in a number of key ICT events such as Armtech, Digitech, ICT expo and Cairo ICT. Both parties agreed on drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would reflect proposed cooperation areas.

At the end of the meeting, the Armenian Ambassador extended an invitation to Egypt’s ICT Minister to visit Armenia in order to promote cooperation between the two countries.
